The European Housing Advisory Board has just released its report
The European Housing Advisory Board, established in 2025 to advise the European Commission on the Affordable Housing Plan, has just released its report. The document proposes a paradigm shift: understanding housing not only as an economic asset but as essential social infrastructure, on par with transport networks or energy supply. Among its 75 recommendations, it highlights prioritising renovation and reuse of vacant properties, sustainable densification, promoting a cost-rental model supported by the EIB and EBRD, linking the green transition with rural revitalisation, and fostering long-term financing models that move away from speculation. The report emphasises the need for political and citizen consensus to implement multi-level governance that respects the specificities of each territory.
