The Master in Housing and City, promoted by the Barcelona Housing Studies Chair and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), aims to offer an integrative vision for the challenges of the 21st century. Housing is at the core of economic, legal, architectural, sociological and anthropological issues. Addressing the growing global demand for equitable and economically sustainable housing requires a new era of multidisciplinary knowledge and experience.
To meet this challenge, the Chair proposes an innovative permanent education master’s degree, offering students the tools, perspectives and methodologies needed to address 21st century housing problems, bridging the gap between theory and practice.
This master’s degree transforms housing into a space where different disciplines converge with a clear international vocation. It is structured around five areas of knowledge. On the one hand, Law provides an understanding of property rights and urban and housing regulations. On the other hand, Architecture provides the keys to sustainable, innovative and accessible design. To these two areas are added Economics, which explores market dynamics, finance and public policies; Sociology, which helps to understand the impact of housing on communities and social cohesion; and Anthropology, which captures the cultural and social dimensions of housing.
UAB’s own master’s degrees and postgraduate courses may provide or facilitate external academic internships in companies or institutions, so that students can acquire a degree of professional experience that facilitates their integration or career advancement.
