Conference on Energy Efficiency in Multi-Family Buildings

The Barcelona Chair of Housing Studies is organising the conference “Energy Efficiency, Innovation and Equity in Multi-Family Buildings”, which will take place on 21 September 2026 in the Courtroom of the Faculty of Law at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

Energy improvement of the residential building stock is one of the central challenges of housing policies. In multi-family buildings, however, the energy transition is complicated by factors such as community decision-making, the technical complexity of collective installations, financing, and the diversity of residents’ economic situations.

The conference will offer a practical overview of the main energy transformation instruments: shared self-consumption, aerothermal energy, storage systems, financing mechanisms, and measures against energy poverty. The aim is to identify viable solutions, analyse barriers, and formulate proposals for effective implementation.

Attendance is in-person and free of charge, with prior registration. A certificate of attendance will be issued to participants.

The conference is directed by Dr. Judith Gifreu Font, Tenured Professor of Administrative Law at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and Co-Director of the Barcelona Chair of Housing Studies.
