Financialization of housing: a tale of 13 cities
The document “Financialization of housing: a tale of 13 cities” is now available. This research was produced by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and supported by the Knowledge Centre for Housing Economics in Copenhagen, examining the financialization of housing from multiple disciplinary perspectives.
The research first explains the concept and theories of financialization and then analyzes how it has developed across thirteen cities in different contexts. The study includes cities from North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania.
For each city case study, the research involved local academic experts who identified the tensions arising from financialization, among other factors, and the policies that cities have introduced to address problems of housing supply and worsening affordability. Montserrat Pareja-Eastaway, Co-director of the Chair, served as the expert contributor for Barcelona.
