Panel discussion and exhibition closing: “Housing” at ETSAB

On Tuesday, October 4th, the debate and closing ceremony of the ETSAB Housing Exhibition took place. The event was organized and curated by the Barcelona Chair of Housing Studies in collaboration with various departments at ETSAB. The exhibition originally opened within the framework of the European Network for Housing Research Congress held from August 31st to September 2nd. The main objective of the exhibition was to gather and showcase housing-related projects developed by both undergraduate and master’s Architecture courses, thereby disseminating ETSAB’s reflections, learnings, and perspectives on the subject.

Following a brief introduction by the Chair’s director, Josep Maria Montaner, and coordinator David H. Falagán, the session featured chronological presentations of the displayed works by faculty members, along with active participation and interest from about twenty students.

Throughout the event, the central role of housing studies within the school became evident, highlighting how housing projects carry an essential and enriching pedagogical component in architectural education. The approach to housing phenomena combines technology, typology, morphology, and the continuous redefinition of what constitutes a dwelling. The closing session concluded with a discussion about the Chair’s impact on academic courses and student development. Replicating and maintaining this exhibition systematically and periodically can help contextualize and give ongoing perspective to the School’s work moving forward.
